Justification of the name - Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Justification of the name - Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

NWFP has been renamed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.In my opinion ,the new name Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is fine. The reasons are;

1) Pakhtunkhwa just for North Pakhtunkhwa [NWFP] would have been unjustified.Pakhtunkhwa has much larger geographical jurisdiction than what is it perceived to be by common people.

2) The name Khyber Pakhtunkhwa paves the way for renaming the Pakhtun belt of Balochistan as well as FATA. I think If we call the South Pakhtunkhwa as Bolan Pakhtunkhwa and FATA as Qabaili Pakhtunkhwa,it will be justified. They have a meaning now being parts of Pakistan and even in future even if the Pakhtunkhwa becomes a separate state, these names will make sense.

3) However it is debatable whether FATA [Central Pakhtunkhwa] should be merged with Pakistan or not. In my opinion if it is merged it will give Pakhtuns more strength to get their freedom in the future. Also it will no more be a proxy land of Islamabad to be used against Afghanistan. Atleast if it is under a Pakhtun CM ,it will not be used as efficiently against Afghanistan as it is being used now.

4) I think the next demand should be to have a separate province for South Pakhtunkhwa - the Pashtun belt of Balochistan.

5) ANP should also support Seraikis for a separate province with the condition that they do not claim Attock and Mianwali as part of it.

6) If FATA Pakhtuns agree then we can demand a separate province [preferable] or merger [less likely] for Qabaili Pakhtunkhwa.

7) The final equation for Pakhtunkhwa becomes:
Pakhtunkhwa = Khyber Pakhtunkhwa+ Bolan Pakhtunkhwa+ Qabaili Pakhtunkhwa

8) One of the arguments against change of names could be calling it North, South, Central Pakhtunkhwa. But I think historic names have more relevance and are more appealing to people then geographical directions. At the end of the day all these names [Khyber,Bolan,Qabaili] are used by Pakhtuns [or atleast proper nouns specific to Pakhtun land] and hence better than geographical directions.

  1. QUOTING: "I think the next demand should be to have a separate province for South Pakhtunkhwa - the Pashtun belt of Balochistan."

    ORrrrrrr... have the Pashtun belt of Balochistan merge with Pukhtunkhwa. How would that be?

    Also, I'm not too fond of the name "Khyber Pukhtunkhwa" :S Why not just "Pukhtunkhwa"? I don't like "Khyber" in it.

    But, of course, no one can dare deny that this name-change is definitely an excellent move. Now that we've proven to ourselves that we CAN get what we demand from the PK government, we should discuss our next steps in planting a stable and peaceful future for ourselves (I pray our future isn't in Pakistan, but IF it is, what can we make of the present situations to demand something else in the near future?)

  2. The answer to why not Pakhtunkhwa ,as I have explained in my post,is that Pakthunkhwa does NOT only stand for the ex-NFWP.So confining Pakhtunkhwa just to NWFP would have been unjustified.NWFP is either North Pakhtunkhwa or the part of Pakhtunkhwa starting from the Khyber pass [Khyber being the starting point].In addition to it, Khyber being a well known name will help as a prefix pointer to introduce PAKHTUNKHWA word to the world ,which is only known to the Pakhtuns and not to the world community.

  3. The merger of Pashtun Belt of Balochistan [technically South Pakhtunkhwa] is the future goal for a united province in Pakistan or may be in case of Independent Pakhtunkhwa ,in case the military takes over [to which the sequence of events is leading].

    In my opinion the Pakistani establishment will either have to surrender to the demands of Pakhtuns for a United Pakhtunkhwa province within Pakistan hence saving Pakistan or face the music in the form of witnessing the balkanisation of Pakistan. There is no third option.

  5. Remember Pashtuns have no access to the sea, It is a shame that sea access is vital for economy and an access to outside world .Afghanistan is deprved of this advantage though in the past Balochistan was a province of Afghanistan and culturaly their culture is very similar to Afghan culture .It is vital for Pashtuns of Balochistan to have a say in the develpment of Gwadar sea town which appears to be a usefull sea route has wide commercial assett. Punjab tries to mnipulate the matter and merge it somehow outside the sphere of Baluchistan and sell to china or Arab Sheikhs lon lease .Gwadar belongs to Balochistan and any unilateral step taken by Panjab bureocracy is criminal
