Pakhtuns - Fake or Real Freedom

Pashtuns were ruling the current Afghanistan, Pakistan and North of India in 1747 with the establishment of modern Afghanistan by Ahmed Shah Durrani. Pakhtuns ruled these territories for decades and decades but lost their control over them gradually in bits and pieces due to internal feuds and external frauds. The reason was indifference towards the secret of good governance viz:

The tenure of a rule is directly proportional to the quantity and quality of welfare work done for the people of the governed territory.

The last blow to the integrity of Pakhtun rule was the separation of current FATA, KPK, Attock, Mianwali and Pakhtun Belt of Baluchistan from Afghanistan by the British as a result of a pact with Ghazi Amanullah Khan. The creation of Pakistan was a nightmare for Pakhtuns as they were left at the mercy of the majority who gave more years of imprisonment to the leaders of Pakhtuns like Ghaffar Khan than he had experienced during the British era. Apparently Pakhtuns were given the impression of freedom along with other Pakistanis but neither Pakhtuns nor other Pakistanis saw that freedom and instead it was the military elite of Punjab and the bureaucracy of Mahajirs which became free to exploit the masses of Pakistan.

In Afghanistan the reformist revolution by the PDPA was a good effort by revolutionary party but they repeated the same mistake of parting with Russian Communist party as Khudai Khidmatgar movement led by Bacha Khan had done by putting their political weight Congress’s demand for freedom. Instead of pressurize the British to include a third option for the Pakhtuns of India to join Afghanistan. In case of Khudai Khidmatgars the movement was not left to give its fruits by the then Muslim league while in case of PDPA’s revolution was sabotaged by Pakistan’s secret agencies as after the withdrawal of USSR Pakistan weakened Dr Najib’s govt. Similarly the politically influential Pathans of India also could not ask for separate state (province) in India till now. The result is that Pakhtuns are divided into four major lands: KPK, FATA, Baluchistan and Afghanistan even if those in India are ignored.

There are three options for deciding the future of Pakhtuns? All the three options should be critically scrutinized in order to set a clear target for the nation.
1)     To remain a part of the current Pakistan but after having real provincial autonomy  including  control of all its resources in a united province comprising of KPK, FANA, PATA, Attock, Mianwali and Pakhtun belt of Baluchistan with an autonomous status for FATA.
2)     To struggle for a separate  Pakhtun state [Pakhtunistan]
3)     To become a part of Pakhtun motherland - Afghanistan
Whatever is the form of Pakhtun rule the following should be the points to differentiate real freedom form fake one:
·         The Vision should be futuristic, progressive and based on the principles of science and technology.

· The Nation should have politically sovereign and Democracy should be the system of government.

· The nation should be economically independent.

· The literacy rate of the nation should be 100%.

· The principle of Right person should be doing the Right job in the Right Place should be practiced.

· The basic infra structure like roads, railways, electricity, hospitals etc should be in place.

· The nation should be self sufficient in Food and Agriculture.

· There should be schools, colleges, institutes, universities, R & D centers, centers of excellence for both genders.

· There should be sufficient industry, business, trade and commerce to support the skilled human resource as well as the productive needs of the nation.

· There should be multiple job opportunities for the masses.

· Exports should be more than imports.

· Natural resources like water, gas, oil, minerals etc should be properly utilized and exploited for the benefit of masses.

· There should proper, prudent and realistic planning for the realization of futuristic goals.

· The system adopted by the nation should be based on rule of law and must ensure socio-economic justice.

· Basic human rights should be guaranteed to every individual of the nation.

  1. very intereresting and informative. I wold like to know what is your opinion about right of return or special nationality for those who are pashtun descent throughout the world and would love to avail the option to return to pashtunkwa. Do they count or is it as always Pashtun mainbody dont care two hoots about their own who migrated. In my opinion it is this perrenial negligence of Pashtun that caused them to loose all their territories. Their connection with their own is always very weak and tennous and they are not known for strong family ties.

  2. Dear Reza
All those who reside on the soil of Pakhtunkhwa are Pakhtuns by virtue of territory whether they speak Pashto or any other language like Hindko, Seraiki etc. However they are not the only Pakhtuns as Pakhtuns can be abroad too. Language is an added advantage for communication in the Pakhtunland but we do not discriminate on the basis of race, language, creed, or color.
